A year at
Michigan Hollow
Week by week, the hollow shifts from a quiet winter ensemble to a rush of warblers, vireos and flycatchers—then back again.
The seasonal index
When each bird is here
Each square is the share of complete checklists reporting a taxon in that week. Darker ink means a more frequent encounter.

How to read it
Frequency, not abundance
A value of 50% means the taxon appeared on half of the complete checklists submitted for that week. It does not mean the bird made up half of all individuals observed.
The chart uses 448 checklist samples across 46 of 48 week bins. January week 1 and May week 2 have no samples; sparse weeks can produce dramatic percentages, so read isolated dark squares with care.
